I got my first chance to check out Aion over the weekend, and it seems pretty cool. No chance to check out the PvP yet, but from what I’ve seen, I’m impressed. Some stuff I liked (without going into detail too much – that’s for a later post):
- Music is top notch and extremely varied – from Amon Tobin-esque ambient music to Juno Reactor type battle music.
- Character creation is amazingly varied, yet the game still runs as good or better than WoW for me.
- Channel system lets you move between multiple “instances” of a zone, like AoC, so if you’re getting overwhelmed by spawncampers during a quest, you can move no problem.
- Map overlay/automap like Diablo is the best thing
- Control clicking map locations and quests into chat
- Player run economy
I’ll hold of on complaints – very few of them, and a full blown review/experience until later. For now, enjoy some screenshots. If you’re curious, go throw down five bones at a Gamestop and grab a key. It’s well worth it.

Water effects look excellent, and the environment looks just as good, like it's ripped from Final Fantasy games.
