It’s nice to see more and more bands embracing the fact that – yes, we do live in an era of downloading and (relatively) free information exchange. And yes, as an artist, you could waste time trying to prevent or deter such downloading. Or, you can offer your fans a reason to buy the physical album or music itself (artists like Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead have released box album sets with considerably more value than a standard CD or MP3 CD.)
Dream Theater’s newest album, Black Clouds and Silver Linings, has the same kind of deal – a $140 box set, $22 Special Edition, a $28 Vinyl edition, and a $16 standard edition,
While that’s nice, Dream Theater is also offering the first song off the album, “A Rite of Passage“, for free, which is even nicer.
