The Joker: Brian Azzarello’s Version

It’s hard for me to get excited about graphic novels anymore.  They’re all so fucking cliche and predictable and not worth my ten bucks.  Especially Batman related graphic novels.

Brian Azzerello’s The Joker is not one of the lame one.  Okay, it’s a bit cliche – but it’s supposed to be.  The story takes place through the eyes of one of The Joker’s henchmen, and follows the Joker’s release from Arkham Asylum, and his subsequent revenge and reclamation of Gotham from the villains who took it from him during his stint in Arkham.

It’s written post-Dark Knight, and while the illustrations resemble Ledger’s Joker somewhat, you see the Joker in a light in which he’s never been portrayed before.

The best part?  Batman has one line the entire book, and occupies a handful of panels.
