Darkfall shaping up to be less vaporware fail

“The more they promise, the harder they fall.”  Such may be the case with Darkfall Online.

I’m still skeptical, even after seeing the video for this game.  The trickle of information for this game is nothing short of just that - a trickle.

If Darkfall ever does get released, it plans to tout the following major features:

  • Unrestricted PvP
  • Skill based character progression (think Oblivion, but without levels, or Eve/Ultima)
  • Real time combat (kinda like AoC)
  • Complete looting
  • Cities that can be built in, destroyed, sieged
  • Mounted combat
  • Naval warfare; player controlled ships (you can see this in one of the videos)
  • Real world physics and collision detection
  • Dynamic weather (ie wind gusts could push you off a cliff)
  • “enhanced” monster AI
  • a zoneless game world capable of supporting over 10,000 concurrent players per game instance,[14] including explicit and dedicated support for large-scale (> 200 player) battles at playable frame-rates.

And you have your standard fantasy races:  Humans, Light Elves, Mahirim, Orks, and Dark Elves.  Stealth is done by actually “hiding” (ie shadows, behind rocks).

Of course, this is all just going by the Darkfall website, and by the said youtube videos.

I’ll believe it when I’m playing the game or the beta.

The videos themselves - most people complain about the graphics, but gameplay always trumps graphics in my book.
